Electricity tariffs in Lithuania: choose the right comparison for your home

Before using a cheap interval on the chart to plan your day, check how your supplier bills electricity. In Lithuania, an exchange-linked product can mean an individual 15-minute price or a monthly average. Those are very different arrangements for a household trying to save by changing when it consumes.

A 15-minute price or a monthly average?

Ignitis distinguishes Išmanus – 15, which requires a smart meter and follows quarter-hour prices, from Išmanus – Mėnesinis, which uses the month's Lithuanian exchange average. With the latter, moving consumption between intervals within that month does not directly change that energy rate. Ignitis plan explanation.

There is a third distinction: a profile-weighted monthly price is not necessarily the simple exchange average. Elektrum explains that customers without a smart meter use a monthly price weighted with ESO consumption coefficients; smart-meter customers on its variable tariff use their actual 15-minute consumption. For a simple invented example, two equal-length periods priced at €0.04 and €0.16/kWh average €0.10/kWh. Consuming 1 kWh in the first and 3 kWh in the second costs €0.52, giving a personal average of €0.13/kWh before additions. Reversing those quantities gives €0.07/kWh. The chart's average is unchanged, but an individually settled customer's cost is not.

A fixed energy tariff is different again. Its agreed rate does not follow the daily chart, although a separate day/night or network tariff may still reward a change in timing.

Supplier examples: the detail matters

These examples are selective, not a ranking. Public information was checked on 10 September 2026. Compare dated offers for your meter, consumption and network plan.

An attractive headline is not a complete price. Ask whether balancing, green-energy services, insurance or other options are included or added. A missing fee in a short product description is unknown, not automatically zero. This guide does not calculate or rank those suppliers' final bills.

The network plan is a separate decision

ESO's 2026 low-voltage Standartinis, single-zone delivery rate is €0.11132/kWh including VAT, equivalent to €0.092 before VAT. ESO separately lists VIAP at −€0.00044/kWh and the household additional component at €0.0002226/kWh, both before VAT. ESO 2026 tariffs.

Compare network plans using your own consumption and connection capacity. A smaller per-kWh charge can be offset by a fixed or capacity-based fee. Keep network day/night schedules separate from green bars on the exchange chart, and check summer/winter clock rules. If your supplier already quotes an all-inclusive price, do not add the regulated components a second time.

A worked bill, not a supplier quote

Assume 200 kWh, a consumption-weighted exchange price of €0.08/kWh, combined supplier per-kWh additions of €0.01/kWh, and a €2 monthly supplier fee. The supplier figures are invented and exclude VAT. Apply the sourced ESO single-zone rates above, with no other services or support.

The standard VAT rate is 21%. Lithuanian tax authority. The example retains extra decimals so the arithmetic can be checked; invoice rounding may differ. It excludes solar-generation settlement, compensation, discounts and additional services.

Here an 8-cent exchange average becomes about 23.21 cents/kWh across the whole bill. That does not mean moving one kWh saves 23.21 cents. Fixed fees remain, and with a single-zone network tariff, shifting the same consumption does not change the network-delivery cost.

A negative market price is not a free final kWh

In the same example, replacing the exchange price with −€0.02/kWh leaves:

−0.02 + 0.01 + 0.092 − 0.00044 + 0.0002226 = €0.0817826/kWh before VAT

This assumes negative prices are passed through without a floor. Monthly charges are excluded. The negative VIAP component is a separate regulated item, not evidence that the exchange price itself was negative.

For solar households, do not apply this ordinary-consumption example to net-metering or net-billing balances. The import contract, generation settlement and network-use charges must be checked together. A cheap daytime import interval may also coincide with your own generation, leaving little purchased electricity to shift.

Before choosing or changing a contract

• Request the short contract summary. Lithuania introduced clearer summaries of essential terms in 2026. Read it alongside the full offer and keep a copy. Energy Ministry guidance.
• Use your own data. Compare a representative year and a high-price scenario, not just the cheapest summer month. Confirm whether the calculation uses real interval readings or a profile.
• Check the regulator's comparison tool. VERT's calculator is a useful starting point; confirm the resulting supplier offer and its effective date.
• Do not assume public supply is irrelevant. Eligible vulnerable customers should check their public-supply options and any supplier notice. VERT's July 2026 guidance explains protections for this group; it does not mean every household has the same entitlement. VERT vulnerable-customer guidance.
• Confirm the switch in writing. Ask for the start date, final-settlement procedure and explanation of any proposed charge. Do not assume an old contract's fee clause is legally enforceable merely because it is printed there; refer a disputed charge to VERT.

Use the daily chart for consumption you can safely move. The best interval for a household is the one that reduces its actual marginal cost without sacrificing comfort or safe appliance operation.
